The real story.
This is the truth !
Not the commercialised crap that retailers ram down our throats in their endless endeavour to fleece us.
Single red rose selling for twenty bucks each and they don't even smell at all like a real rose.

Lotsa stories about him.....
This one sounds legit !

The various legends of St Valentine
There are several legends associated with St Valentine and how he came to be sainted. One story says that Valentine was called before Emperor Claudius and refused to give up his Christianity to become a pagan. Another story is that Valentine was secretly marrying Christian couples, a practice which had been outlawed by the Emperor.

Whatever the reason, Saint Valentine was executed on 14 February in the year 270. It is said that prior to his execution, St Valentine had cured the blindness of his jailor's daughter and his final act was to write her a love message signed ‘from your valentine'.

RE: The real story.
The truth? sourced from a Christian website? Is that similar to the truth sourced from Breitbart? ... or CNN?

sorry but .... [Image: yellow-laughing-smiley-emoticon.gif]

I agree entirely that after Xmas and Easter it is easily the most cynical marketing exercise ever. ... there seems to be a pattern to these highly commercialised anniversaries ... mmmm ... oh yeah, all true Christian stories. RolleyesSmile

RE: The real story.
Business is business Tezza, what we sell is only worth what people will pay for it. I'm pretty sure Totty would be well aware of that. Wink

The various legends of St Valentine
There are several legends associated with St Valentine and how he came to be sainted. One story says that Valentine was called before Emperor Claudius and refused to give up his Christianity to become a pagan.
There were apparently two men named Valentine who were martyred. These examples are probably about two different men.
Another story is that Valentine was secretly marrying Christian couples, a practice which had been outlawed by the Emperor.
Common soldiers serving in the Roman legions were not permitted to marry but some did so secretly. Valentine and some other priests were prepared to perform the ceremony to sanctify the union. This is why this Valentine fell foul of the Roman hierarchy.

Whatever the reason, Saint Valentine was executed on 14 February in the year 270. It is said that prior to his execution, St Valentine had cured the blindness of his jailor's daughter and his final act was to write her a love message signed ‘from your valentine'.[/b]

Another version is that the blind daughter of his gaoler, who was a young girl, was kind to him and they became friends. As he was about to executed he wrote her a letter which he signed, in Latin, of course, "from your Valentine". Not sure about the curing of blindness though. That sounds like the usual embellishment that happens in the process of declaring someone a saint. I very much doubt that the Romans recorded any of this. It could all be legend.

Rorting politicians are a drain on the public purse.

She's in Cambodia so we probably won't hear from her ever again. Undecided

The world has succumbed to smarmy spreadsheet magic pudding nonsense about wind and solar that simply does not add up.
